Collection Description

Collection name Harmonic Society, Birmingham (1829)
Unique identifier 7898.m.13. (4.)
Description Programmes and wordbooks for performances given at an unspecified venue by the Birmingham Harmonic Society on 6 February and 18 December 1829.

Both were two-part concerts of predominantly English vocal repertory (solo and ensemble), with orchestral overtures at the beginning of each part. The first concert also included one instrumental solo in each section.

Both performances were led by Mr Shargool and conducted by Mr Sharman and featued the following vocal performers: Messrs Flavell, Harris, Heaton and Machin and Miss Betts and Miss Fletcher. Mr Stainer (flute) appeared only at the first concert and Signor Costa (vocal/piano) only at the second.

The programme for the first concert carries one very minor handwritten annotation, detailing a change to the performer listed in the printed programme.
