Description
Programmes and wordbooks, with historical notes, for performances given by the Handel Opera Society at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London between 1977 and 1985.
All performances featured the Handel Opera Society Chorus and Orchestra, conducted by Charles Farncombe.
All programmes include a note of the Handel Opera Society (est. 1955) and, if appropriate, a short plot synopsis. Many also include a list of the choral and orchestral ensemble.
The performers listed below are the vocal soloists. Unless otherwise stated, all works are by Handel.
19 June 1976: Hercules, with Meriel Dickinson, Patricia Kern, David Cusick, Wendy Eathorne and Thomas Hemsley.
29 January 1977: Rodelinda, with Elizabeth Harwood, Kenneth Bowen, Anthony Smith, Delia Jones, Anne Wilkens and Rodney Hardesty.
23 April 1977: Handel and the Chapel Royal, featuring Charles Brett, Peter Jeffes and Jolyon Dodgson.
28 January 1978: Theodora, with Jolyon Dodgson, Johanna Peters, Philip Langridge, Eiddwen Harrhy, Helen Attfield and Alastair Boobyer.
18 March 1978: Messiah, with Elizabeth Harwood, Norma Procter, Anthony Rolfe Johnson and John Shirley-Quirk.
3 February 1979: Church Music for Great Occasions, featuring Deborah Goody, Charles Brett, Adrian Thompson and Jolyon Dodgson. Also, Sarah Francis (oboe).
19 May 1979: Jephtha, with Ian Comboy, Anthony Roden, Anne Collins, John York Skinner, Laureen Livingstone and Peter Jeffes.
2 February 1980: Henry Purcell, Ode to St. Cecilia and Handel, Ode for St. Cecilia's Day, with Wendy Eathorne, Kevin Smith, Peter Jeffes and Ian Comboy.
10 May 1980: Saul, with Stephanie Debret, Elizabeth Harwood, Kevin John, Raimund Herincx, John York Skinner, Neil Jenkins, Lynda Russell, Elizabeth Stokes and Richard Wigmore.

Collections Overview
The Gerald Coke Handel Collection is an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries, including manuscripts, printed books and music, libretti, paintings and engravings, memorabilia, art works and ephemera. The Handel collection is open for research Wednesday-Friday, and the display room (with access to recorded music) is open with the rest of the museum Tuesday-Sunday 10-6.
