Collection name Handel Festival York (1791)
Unique identifier
Description Programmes and wordbooks for the three performances given at the Cathedral, York between 16 and 18 August 1791 as the Musical Festival, conducted by Mr Camidge Jun.

All programmes begin with a list of the Patrons of the Festival and the wordbooks carry the names of the vocal soloists.

There are a large number of handwritten annotations which offer detailed observations on the success, or otherwise, of the performance.

The first and third performances are referred to as Grand Selections and are drawn from the oratorio compositions of Handel. The middle performance was of The Messiah.
