Description Programmes and wordbooks for a Grand Scotch and a Grand Irish Festival, given at the Royal Albert Hall, London on 25 January and 17 March 1893, under the direction of Mr William Carter.

Both were two-act concerts of solo and ensemble vocal music, with the appropriate nationalistic orientation. Each act began with an appearance from the Pipers and Band of Her Majesty’s Scots Guards.

Both performances were conducted by William Carter, Wilhelm Ganz, Raphael Roche, H. Lane Wilson, W.W. Hedgcock and Mr Edward Holland and featured Mr William Carter’s Choir and the Band of Her Majesty’s Scots Guards.

Both concerts featured Madame Belle Cole and Mr Iver McKay (vocal), Max Reichel (violin) and Dr Churchill Sibley (organ). The additional vocal soloists were as follows: Madame Albani, Mademoiselle Marie Elba, Miss Grace Damian, Mr Dalgety Henderson and Mr Charles Constable (25 January) and Madame Giulia Valda, Miss Lemmens Sherrington, Miss Helen Pettican, Mr Joseph O’Mara, Signor Foli, Mr Barrington Foote and Mr Josef Claus (17 March).

Both programmes contain a number of handwritten annotations, detailing changes to the printed programme, commenting on the performance, and identifying those works which received an encore.
