Description
An incomplete collection of programmes and handbills for a series of lecture-recitals on Twentieth-Century Music (nos. 4 and 6-9), given at the Grotrian Hall (nos. 4, 6, 7 and 8) and the Aeolian Hall, London (no.9) between 1936 and 1939, held as part of the papers of the pianist and lecturer Graham Carritt (d.1980).
The collection also includes letters to Carritt (1935–62) and a programme with words for a Recital of Recent Songs by Yrjö Kilpinen, given on 6 February 1935 at the Wigmore Hall by Gerhard Hüsch (vocal), accompanied by Madame Kilpinen (with brief biographical notes and a photograph of the composer).
With the exception of the event in 1936, all performances were given with the assistance of Rose Morse (vocal).
31 May 1934: English and French Piano Music, including the first English performance of songs by Marcel Delannoy (handbill).
12 May 1936: with Bernard Shore (viola) and featuring the piano music of Backer-Lunde, Fini Henriques and Carl Nielsen and the viola music of Vaughan Williams and Bjarne Brustad, including the first English performance of Bjarne Brustad, Norsk Suite for viola and piano (4 copies of a handbill plus a smaller handbill/ticket).
11 March 1937: Songs and Piano Music of Czech Composers (programme with words).
17 May 1938: Songs and Piano Music of Swedish Composers (handbill, 2 copies).
23 May 1939: with Antoinette Chaplin (violin), and including works by Edmund Rubbra, Gerald Finzi and Robin Milford (programme with words).
This material is held as folder MS 6894 within Box M88. The material was presented by Carritt to the Royal College of Music in 1972.

Collections Overview
Founded in 1883, the RCM Library primarily supports the performance, study and research of RCM members. It is also open to the public for reference and research. It contains some 300,000 items, including significant collections of early printed and manuscript material from the 16th to 19th centuries, given to the College upon its foundation, specifically the Libraries of the Sacred Harmonic Society and of the Concerts of Ancient Music. Donations since have included autographs of composers of international renown, amongst them Beethoven, Chopin, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert, as well as manuscripts and archives of major British composers. Although a British bias is apparent, the collection also has significant German and Italian manuscripts and early printed holdings. Later acquisitions of printed music include large quantities of out-of-print material, and sizeable collections of performance sets. Audio-visual holdings and the RCM's own sound archive's are also extensive.
