Description
A miscellaneous collection of loose handbills, programmes and prospectuses for performances given at various venues in Leipzig between 1901 and 1995, arranged by venue and divided into two folders, both of which are contained within a single box.
The first folder covers venues from A through to G, notably the Gewandhaus, with the second covering venues from M through to Z and also including a number of prospectuses/brochures for festivals and other multi-venue events.
Folder 1
This folder consists principally of material relating to performances given at the Leipzig Gewandhaus, including a handbills for performances on 30 November and 21 December 1901 and 3 November 1904, a season guide for 1970–71 and various material relating to the 1994–95 season: this includes two season guides (of differing sizes), leaflet for the concerts of October and November 1994, leaflets for the Sinfonieorchester und chor des Mitteldeutschen Rundfunks and for the Streichquartett Abende and a leaflet for the Benefitzkonzert given by the Gewandhausorchester on 6 November 1994 with Kurt Masur. Also, a programme with notes (including biographical notes with photographs) for a performance by the Shinsei Nihon Symphony Orchestra on 8/9 June 1990, with Ikuyo Nakamichi (piano), conducted y Ondrej Lenard.
The folder also includes programmes with words and notes from the Alberthalle, Leipzig (20 November 1912 and 26 February 1913) and a handbill from the Alte Handelsbörse (1 March 1981).
Folder 2
This folder includes programme books (with notes) for operatic performances at the Leipziger Theatrer/Opernhaus am Karl-Marx-Platz, given on 1 March 1970, 2 September 1973, 3 March 1968, 2 and 3 March 1969, 13 March 1988, with 2 further undated booklets for performances of Wagner, Die Meistersinger.
Also, programmes, some with words, for Musikinstrumenten-Museum der Universitat Leipzig (30 October 1994), Der Thomaskirche (1 March 1957 and 20/21 May 1988, single document), the Festsaale des 'Zoologischen Gartens (27 February 1905), the Kongreßhalle (7 March 1961) and the Stadtisches Kaufhaus (10 November 1928) and leaflets/brochures for the Hochschule fur Musik und Theatre (November 1994), the Staedtische Theatre Leipzig/Neues Theater (1924-25 season) and Oper Leipzig (leaflets for the 1994–95, October and November 1994 (with 2 copies for October) and the Leipziger Opernzeit from October 1995).
This folder includes prospectuses for the Deutsches Handelfest (6-8 June 1925), the 17th, 22nd and 47th Deutschen Bach Fest (8-10 June 1929, 16-24 June 1935 and 15-19 June 1972), III International Johann-Sebastian-Bach Wettbewerb (5-20 June 1968, three documents) and the 2nd Internationales Bachfest (17-21 September 1970).
