Description A collection of material relating to events at Carlisle House, Soho Square and at White Conduit House between 1824 and 1836, held with material relating to musical performances given by/with trained animals, held as Part 2 and Parts 7-8 of eight volumes of newspaper cuttings, advertisements, playbills and other material collected by John Fillinham.

Part 2
A volume of material relating to events at Carlisle House, Soho Square and at White Conduit House, including the following handbills for performances given at, or in the grounds of, the latter. All of these events featured theatrical/dramatic performances, as well as the musical components referred to below. Many of the programmes are bound with supplementary material such as tickets and/or press cuttings/reports.

7 September 1824: Gala Fete for the benefit of Mr Crumpton, including a Vocal and Military Concert.
16 June 1829: Grand Concert of Vocal and Instrumental Music, with Mr Sturgis (piano), conducted by Mr D.W. Rae.
12 April 1830: Vocal and Instrumental Concert, conducted by Mr Whitaker (with lists of the vocal soloists and of the instrumental ensemble).
24 August 1830: Grand Fete in Honour of the Birthday of William IV, including a Vocal and Instrumental Concert.
7, 8, 19 and 12 March 1831: Vocal and Instrumental Music, with Messrs Bellamy and Adams, Mrs Smith and Miss Pressdee.
5, 7 and 9 April 1831: Easter Week performances, including a Concert with Mr and Mrs Howell (single handbill).
12 September 1831: Grand Vocal and Instrumental Concert with Master Tinney (piano and organ), to mark the opening of the Grand Concert Room.
[30 August 1830]: Grand Vocal and Instrumental Concert.
26 May [1832]: Grand Vocal and Instrumental Concert, conducted by Mr Nicholson.
25 June 1832: Gala Night, including a Grand Vocal and Instrumental Concert, led and directed by Mr H. Nicholson.
2 and 31 January 1835: 2 Grand Concerts in two parts (with lists of the principal vocal and instrumental performers).
15 July 1837: Grand Gala, including a concert led by Mr T. Hughes and directed by Mr Tinney.
8 June and 7 July 1840: Grand Vocal and Instrumental Concerts.
19 August [1844]: Royal Jubilee Gala (two handbills).
1 September 1836: Grand Gala and Ball.

Parts 7-8.
A collection of press cuttings, programmes and illustrations relating to performances given by trained animals, including the following handbills/programmes, held as two volumes.

Volume 1
6 July 1850 and 30 July 1853, Zoological Society of London, Gardens: Band of the First Life Guards, conducted by Mr Waddell.

Volume 2
25 January 1860, Hanover Square: Grand and Novel Entertainment in aid of the St. Vincent-de-Paul, Shoeblack Society, including a 'selection of choice music' performed by Signor Testa's Efficient Band with Miss Banks and Mr Gaynar (vocal), Mr Haydn Harrison (piano) and Master Drew Denn (flute). This event also featured Mr W. Tanner and his performing dogs.
26-28 and 30 March 1861, Royal Surrey Theatre: evening entertainment including a Grand Concert given by Miss Esther Jacobs, Mrs Brian, Mrs Macfarlane, Mr Russell Grover, Mr Wyndham Clark, Mr G. Parkes, Mr A.B. Hollingsworth, Mr Lingard and Mr A.F. Buckingham and Mr G. Phillips's Celebrated Band. The evening also featured the Rope Walker/Rocky Mountain Wonders.
