Collection name F. Gilbert Webb collection: Queen's Hall Lamoureux Concerts (1896-98)
Unique identifier Mus. 318 d.27
Description A collection of programmes books for Grand Orchestral Concerts given under the direction of Mons Charles Lamoureux at the Queen's Hall, London on 16 and 18 April and 16-21 November 1896, 22-27 March and 3 and 10 November 1897 and 16 February, 2 and 15 March, 20 April and 21 May 1898, held in a single box. Also, a further programme book from this series which, lacking its front page, is undated.

These were two-part orchestral concerts given by the Orchestre des Concerts-Lamoureux (to end March 1897) and the Queen's Hall Orchestra (from November 1897), under the management of Robert Newman. The concerts included a large number of works – particularly by French composers – that were receiving their first performance in this country.

All programmes include Historical and Analytical Notes (with musical examples) by Edgar F. Jacques, carry a photograph of the conductor and include a list of the orchestral ensemble. Those given by the Orchestre des Concerts-Lamoureux begin with 'A Few Words about M. Lamoureux and his Orchestra'.

A number of the programmes carry handwritten annotations, which often analytical observations on the pieces performed.
