Collection Description

Collection name F. Gilbert Webb collection: Q. H. Symphony, Wagner and Ysaye/Symphony, Ysaye and Busoni Concerts (1898-1901)
Unique identifier Mus. 318 d.5/d.10
Description Programmes books for the 3rd and 5th seasons of the Queen's Hall Symphony Concerts, given under the management of Robert Newman by the Queen's Hall Orchestra, conducted by Henry Wood, 1898-99 and 1900-01, bound as two volumes (one per season).

These were two-part orchestral concerts, including some vocal and instrumental solos and featuring a large number of works receiving their first performances in England and/or London.

Interfiled with this sequence are programmes for an afternoon and evening performance given on Good Friday and for various other performances given at the same venue. Unless otherwise described as a 'recital', these concerts were also orchestral performances (of the kind described above), given by the Queen's Hall Orchestra and conducted by Henry Wood.

All programmes include words and Historical and Analytical Notes by Edgar F. Jacques (the majority with musical examples). Where appropriate, they provide a list of the orchestral ensemble.

Programmes are bound chronologically within each volume but are grouped here by series.
