Unique identifier Mus. 318 d.26
Description A bound volume containing the prospectus with programmes for the ten concerts given by the Glasgow Choral Union as the Fourteenth Series of Choral and Orchestral Concerts, held at St. Andrew's Hall, Glasgow, on 13, 20 and 27 December 1887 and 2, 5, 10, 17, 24 and 31 January and 2 February 1888. Also, individual programmes with words and historical and analytical notes (with musical examples) for concert nos. 1, 3 and 5-9.

The concerts on 20 December 1887 and 2 January and 2 February 1888 were Choral and were conducted by Joseph Bradley. The remainder were Orchestral and were conducted by August Manns.

Both the prospectus and the individual programmes include lists of the orchestral ensemble. The prospectus also cites the involvement of the following soloists.

Vocal: Miss Mary Davies, Miss Annie Marriott, Mademoiselle Elvira Gambogi, Mademoiselle Elly Warnots, Miss Alice Whitacre and Mrs Hutchinson; Madame Belle Cole, Miss Hope Glenn and Madame Patey; Mr Iver McKay, Mr Henry Piercy and Mr Henry Beaumont; Mr Watkin Mills, Mr Bantock Pierpoint and Mr Frederic King
Instrumental: Franz Ondricek and E. Fernandez-Arbós (violin), Mons. E. Gillet (cello) and Herr Franz Rummel and Bernhard Stavenhagen (pianos).

Certain of the programmes carry minor handwritten annotations which offer observations on the performance and on the material contained in the programme notes. Pasted into the programmes are press cuttings containing reviews of the performances.

The volume concludes with a series of 9 programmes (with words and notes) which would appear to relate to the 1887-88 Popular Concerts: the first programme carries the annotation '1st Popular Concert, Saturday Dec.17: 87' and the sequence concludes with a printed index of the 'Compositions … performed at the Popular Concerts'.
