Description
A collection of programme books for the Crystal Palace Saturday Concerts 1892-93 season (nos. 1-3, 5-16, 18 and 20), conducted by August Manns, held as individual items within the 22nd of 29 boxes.
This boxes also includes the programme book with words for Mr Manns's Benefit Concert, given at the same venue on 29 April 1893.
All programmes include words and carry historical and analytical notes, with musical examples, the majority by George Grove, some with annotations/corrections in his hand. Programmes also provide a list of the orchestral ensemble.
1892-93 season (nos. 1-3, 5-16, 18 and 20)
15 October 1892: Mr Eugene Oudin (vocal) and Mr Vladimir de Pachmann (piano).
22 October 1892: Madame Clara Samuell (vocal) and David Popper (cello), including the first performance of Barclay Jones, Concert Overture in C minor.
29 October 1892: Mr Andrew Black (vocal) and Mademoiselle Szumoska (piano).
12 November 1892: Mademoiselle Antoinette Trebelli (vocal) and Herr Hugo Heermann (violin).
19 November 1892: In Memoriam Franz Schubert, with Mr and Mrs Henschel (vocal).
26 November 1892: Signorina Giulia Ravogli (vocal) and Miss Adelina de Lara (piano).
3 December 1892: Mr Henry Piercy, Mr Norman Salmond and Mr Albert Fairbairn (vocal), with the Crystal Palace Choir and Mr Alfred J. Eyre (organ).
10 December 1892: Miss Esther Palliser (vocal) and Master Jean Gerardy, conducted by Dr A. C. Mackenzie.
17 December 1892: Mrs Katharine Fisk (vocal) and Monsieur Emile Sauret (violin), including the first performance of F. Corder, Overture, 'Nordisa'.
18 February 1893: Madame Maria Duma (vocal) and Master Otto Hegner (piano).
25 February 1893: Mr Santley (vocal) and Miss Mary Cardew (violin).
4 March 1893: Madame Belle Cole (vocal) and Monsieur Slivinski (piano), including the first performance of Marshall Hall, Concert-Overture (MS).
11 March 1893: Madame Clara Samuell, Miss Marian McKenzie, Mr Edwin Houghton and Mr Andrew Black (vocal), the Crystal Palace Choir and Mr A. J. Eyre (organ), including the first English performance of Dvorak, Mass in D, op. 86.
18 March 1893: Miss Mary Harris (vocal) and Dr. Joseph Joachim (violin).
25 March 1893: Mademoiselle Landi (vocal) and Herr Julius Klengel (cello), including the first English performance of Klengel, Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra, no. 2 in D.
8 April 1893: Mr Braxton Smith (vocal) and Miss Fanny Davies (piano), including the first English performance of E. Grieg, Orchestral Suite, no. 2 from the music to 'Peer Gynt'.
22 April 1893: Miss Liza Lehmann (vocal) and Gabriele Wietrowetz (violin).

29 April 1983: Miss Margaret Macintyre and Mr Santley (vocal), Mademoiselle Frida Scotta (violin), Mademoiselle Clotilde Kleeberg (piano) and the Crystal Palace Choir.

Collections Overview
Founded in 1883, the RCM Library primarily supports the performance, study and research of RCM members. It is also open to the public for reference and research. It contains some 300,000 items, including significant collections of early printed and manuscript material from the 16th to 19th centuries, given to the College upon its foundation, specifically the Libraries of the Sacred Harmonic Society and of the Concerts of Ancient Music. Donations since have included autographs of composers of international renown, amongst them Beethoven, Chopin, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert, as well as manuscripts and archives of major British composers. Although a British bias is apparent, the collection also has significant German and Italian manuscripts and early printed holdings. Later acquisitions of printed music include large quantities of out-of-print material, and sizeable collections of performance sets. Audio-visual holdings and the RCM's own sound archive's are also extensive.
