Description
A collection of programme books for the Crystal Palace Saturday Concerts seasons 1882-83 (nos. 18-20 and 22-25) and 1883-84 (nos. 2-17), conducted by August Manns, held as individual items within the thirteenth of 29 boxes.
All programmes include words and carry historical and analytical notes with musical examples, the majority by George Grove, some with annotations/corrections in his hand.
1882-83 season (nos. 18-20 and 22-25)
7 April 1883: Miss Annie Marriott (vocal) and Mr Richard Rickard (piano).
14 April 1883: Miss Mary Davies (vocal) and Mr Krause (viola).
21 April 1883: Mr Egbert Roberts (vocal) and Senor Sarasate (violin).
5 May 1883: Miss Thudichum (vocal) and Signorina Teresina Tua (violin), including the first performance of Schubert, Manuscript Symphony in E, no. 7.
12 May 1883: Miss Annie Marriott, Miss Orridge, Mr Harper Kearton and Mr Frederick King (vocal), with the Crystal Palace Choir and Signorina Teresina Tua (violin), including the first English performance of Dvorak, Concert-Overture, 'Mein Heim'.
26 May 1883: Berlioz, Messe des Morts, with Mr Harper Kearton (tenor) and the Crystal Palace Choir.
2 June 1883: Mrs Hutchinson and Miss Hope Glenn (vocal) with M. Vladimir de Pachmann (piano).

27 October 1883: Miss Hilda Coward and Madame Patey (vocal) with Mr Edward Howell (cello).
3 November 1883: In Memoriam, Felix Mendelssohn, given by Miss Hilda Wilson, Mr Charles Chilley and Mr Santley (vocal), with the Crystal Palace Choir and Mr Carrodus (violin).
10 November 1883: Mr Maas (vocal).
17 November 1883: Miss Griswold (vocal) and M. Vladimir de Pachmann (piano).
24 November 1883: Miss Mary Davies (vocal) and M. Fischer (cello), including the first English performance of Carl Reinecke, Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra, in D, op. 82.
1 December 1883: Berlioz, Grande Messe des Morts, with Mr Harper Kearton (tenor) and the Crystal Palace Choir.
8 December 1883: Miss Alexandra Ehrenberg and Signor Foli (vocal) with Madame Montigny-Rémaury (piano), including the first performance of Parry, Selection from the Incidental Music to 'The Birds' of Aristophanes (conducted by the composer).
15 December 1883: Miss Thudichum and Herr Georg Ritter (vocal) with Madame Frickenhaus (piano), including the first English performance of Auguste Dupont, Concerto for Pianoforte and Orchestra in F minor, op. 49.
16 February 1884: Madame Carlotta Patti (vocal) and Mons. De Munck (cello), including the first English performance of Saint-Saens, Ballet Divertissement, 'Fete Populaire' (Henry VIII).
23 February 1884: Handel, Acis and Galatea, with Miss Mary Davies, Mr Winch, Mr Bridson and Mr Charles Chilley (vocal) and the Crystal Palace Choir.
1 March 1884: Mademoiselle Carlotta Badia (vocal) and Mary Krebs (piano).
8 March 1884: Mr Edward Lloyd (vocal) and Miss Emily Shinner (violin), including the first English performance of B. Godard, Scène Poétiques, op. 46.
15 March 1884: Miss Thudichum (vocal) and Joseph Joachim (violin), including the first English performance of Mozart, Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, no. 5 in A.
22 March 1884: Mr William J. Winch (vocal) and Mademoiselle Janotha (piano), including the first English performance of Dvorak, Notturno for Strings, op. 40 and Scherzo Capriccioso for Orchestra, op. 66.
29 March 1884: Miss Annie Marriott, Miss Marion McKenzie, Mr Harper Kearton and Mr Frederic King (vocal) with the Crystal Palace Choir.

Collections Overview
Founded in 1883, the RCM Library primarily supports the performance, study and research of RCM members. It is also open to the public for reference and research. It contains some 300,000 items, including significant collections of early printed and manuscript material from the 16th to 19th centuries, given to the College upon its foundation, specifically the Libraries of the Sacred Harmonic Society and of the Concerts of Ancient Music. Donations since have included autographs of composers of international renown, amongst them Beethoven, Chopin, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert, as well as manuscripts and archives of major British composers. Although a British bias is apparent, the collection also has significant German and Italian manuscripts and early printed holdings. Later acquisitions of printed music include large quantities of out-of-print material, and sizeable collections of performance sets. Audio-visual holdings and the RCM's own sound archive's are also extensive.
