Description
A collection of programmes and wordbooks for the Concerts of Ancient Music given during the seasons 1805-08 and 1810, held as five bound volumes.
Twelve performances were given each season at the New Rooms, Hanover Square, led by Mr [Franz] Cramer and conducted by Mr [Thomas] Greatorex. These were two-part vocal and choral concerts (including a significant number of extracts from Handel oratorios), typically with orchestral overtures at the beginning of each part.
Each volume begins with lists of the vocal soloists and provides a list of the choral and orchestral ensembles and of the Subscribers for the season.
Each season included performances given by Mr Bartleman, Mr Elliott, Mr Gore, Mr Goss, Mr Harrison, Mr Knyvett and Mr Sale. Also, Mr Sale Jun. (not 1805), Mrs Vaughan (not 1805) and Mrs Billington (not 1807). Additional vocalists are listed below.
The programme for the 9th concert of 1807 is labelled 5 April (as given below), although this is likely to be a mis-print.
6, 13, 21 and 28 February, 6, 13 and 20 March, 3 April and 1, 8, 15 and 22 May 1805: Masters Price, Cutler and Jones, Miss Tennant.
5, 12, 20 and 27 February, 5, 12, 19 and 26 March, 16, 23 and 30 April and 7 May 1806: Masters Price, Cutler and Jones.
4, 12, 18 and 26 February, 4, 11 and 18 March, 8, 5, 22 and 29 April and 6 May 1807: Mrs Ashe and Mrs Mountain.
10, 18 and 24 February, 3, 9, 16, 23 and 30 March, 6 and 27 April and 4 and 11 May 1808: Mr Bellamy.
21 February, 1, 8, 14, 21 and 28 March, 4 and 11 April and 2, 9, 16 and 23 May 1810: Miss Darby.
