Collection name Concerts of Ancient Music (1793-1842)

Description A complete set of programmes and wordbooks for the 12 Concerts of Ancient Music given in 1793. Also, individual programmes and wordbooks for the 1804 season (missing concert no.1) and for nine further concerts given between 1840 and 1842.

Few of these items cite a performance venue, although it is known from other sources that these concerts took place at the New Rooms, Tottenham Street (1793) and at the New Rooms, Hanover Square (1804 and 1840-42).

All wordbooks list the names of the vocal soloists engaged.

6, 20 and 27 February, 6, 13 and 20 March, 10, 17 and 24 April and 1, 8 and 15 May 1793.
29 February, 7, 14 and 21 March, 11, 18 and 25 April and 2, 9, 16 and 23 May 1804.
25 March, 8 and 29 April and 6 and 20 May 1840.
21 and 28 April and 5 May 1841.
20 April 1842.

There are two copies of the programme for 28 April 1841. Although clearly related, these each contain a slightly different running order.
