Description
A miscellaneous collection of prospectuses for the Three Choirs Festivals, given variously in Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester in 1946, 1960, 1964-66, 1969 and 1972-73, held loosely as the nineteenth box of the Carl Newton collection.
All documents include programmes with words and notes (some with musical examples), historical notes on the Festival and associated topics, detailed lists of the performers (from 1960, with photographs) and assorted information related to the practical arrangements for the event (including maps, seating plans, ticket prices, travel information and lists of the officers/committee members).
All Festivals consisted of morning and evening performances and included an Opening Service. The programmes featured a number of pieces receiving their 'first performance'.
Gloucester: 5-10 September 1965 and 18-23 August 1974
Hereford: 8, 10-13 September 1946, 6-11 September 1964 and 19-24 August 1973.
Worcester: 4-9 September 1960, 4-9 September 1966, 24-29 August 1969 and 27 August-1 September 1972.
