Description A miscellaneous collection of programme books for performances given at the Royal Festival Hall, London, by the BBC Symphony Orchestra (6 programmes), the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (4 programmes) and the Royal Philharmonic Society (3 programmes), 1981-1995, held loosely as the seventeenth box of the Carl Newton collection.

All programmes include notes, biographical notes, photographs and a list of the orchestral ensemble.


1. BBC Symphony Orchestra
The performances given on 15 and 19 March 1995 formed part of the Elgar, The Music Makers series. Where no other indication is given below, concerts were conducted by Andrew Davis.
19 January 1981: 50th Anniversary Concert with Edith Vogel (piano), Felicity Lott and Stafford Dean (vocal) and the BBC Singers, conducted by James Loughran.
22 February 1985: Mahler, Symphony No. 7, conducted Matthias Bamert.
16 March 1990: including the UK premiere of Birtwistle, Machaut à ma manière, with Alison Hagley and Howard Haskin (vocal).
12 October 1992: Elgar, The Kingdom with Pamela Coburn, Christine Cairns, Laurence Dale and David Wilson-Johnson (vocal), the BBC Singers and BBC Symphony Chorus.
15 March 1995: Antonio Meneses (cello).
19 March 1995: Ida Haendel (violin).


2. Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
The performances on 2 and 5 July were entitled Tribute to Elgar, nos. 1 and 2 and were conducted by Antal Dorati.
29 May 1984: Alberto Lysy and Yehudi Menuhin (violins), conducted by Menuhin.
2 July 1984: Robert Cohen (piano).
5 July 1984: Nigel Kennedy (violin).
22 February 1992: Elgar, with Robert Cohen (piano), conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras.


3. Royal Philharmonic Society
14 May 1986: Les Grands Maîtres Français with Michel Dalberto (piano) and Peter Hurford (organ) and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Louis Frémaux.
12 November 1986: Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, conducted by Kurt Masur.
28 January 1987: City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Simon Rattle.
