Description
A miscellaneous collection of prospectuses (with programmes) and programme books for the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts, presented by the BBC and given at the Royal Albert Hall, London between 1930 and 1958, held loosely as the twelfth box of the Carl Newton collection.
1. Prospectuses
1944, 1946-48, 1950-51, 1953-61 and 1963-75: season no. 50, 52-54, 56-57, 59-67 and 69-81.
2. Programmes
All programmes include words and historical and descriptive notes. Many carry photographs of the conductor and some provide a list of the orchestral ensemble..
The concerts are grouped together according to the orchestral ensemble. Where no other indiciation is given below, the concerts were conducted by Basil Cameron.
- BBC Symphony Orchestra
23 August 1930: Popular Concert, by Dorothy Bennett and Parry Jones (vocal), Orrea Pernel (violin) and Berkeley Mason (organ), conducted by Henry Wood. The concert included the first London performance of Percy Grainger, English Dance for Orchestra and Organ.
26 September 1932: Wagner Concert, given by Parry Jones, Thorpe Bates, Mahry Dawes, Irene Morden and Valetta Iacopi (vocal), conducted by Henry Wood.
10 January 1947: Beethoven Concert, given by Paul Beard (violin), Ambrose Gauntlett (cello), Terence Macdonagh (oboe), Richard Newton (bassoon) and Mewton-Wood (piano).
15 January 1947: Mozart-Schubert Concert with Nina Milkina (piano), conducted by Sir Adrian Boult.
31 July 1954: Cyril Smth (piano), conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent.
21 August 1954: Victoria Elliott (vocal) and Gina Bachauer (piano), conducted by Malcolm Sargent.

5 September 1950: Nancy Evans (vocal) and William Primrose (viola), including the first London performance of Bartok, Concerto for Viola and Orchestra.
4 September 1951: Brahms Concert, given by Mary Jarred (vocal) and Solomon (piano) with the BBC Choral Society.
11 September 1954: Jack Brymer (clarinet) and Denis Matthews (piano), conducted by Sir Adrian Boult.
12 August 1957: Schubert-Brahms concert with Endre Wolf (violin).

1 August 1953: Redvers Llewellyn (vocal) and Cyril Smith and Phylliss Sellick (piano).

16 August 1956: Colin Horsley (piano).
26 July 1957: Frederick Grinke (violin) and Natasha Litvin (piano), including the first English performance of Iain Hamilton, Overture, Bartholomew Fair.
9 August 1958: Tchaikovsky Concert with Amy Shuard, Janet Howe and Richard Lewis (vocal) and Ventsislav Yankoff (piano).
