Description A collection comprising the programmes and wordbooks for four morning and four evening performances given at the Park Hall, Cardiff between 21 and 24 September 1904 as the Cardiff Triennial Musical Festival, led by Mr W. Fyre Parker and conducted by Frederic Cowen.

All programmes contain wordbooks, historical and analytical notes with musical examples (the majority by Mr W.A. Morgan), a list of the orchestral ensemble, photographs of the principal performers and lists of the Patrons and committee for the Festival.

Morning concerts
21 September 1904: Mendelssohn, Hymn of Praise; Edward German, Welsh Rhapsody (composed for the festival); and vocal music by Mozart, Handel and Tchaikovsky.
22 September 1904: Elgar, The Dream of Gerontius; Arthur Hervey, In the East (tone poem, written for the festival); Elgar, Two Sea Pictures; and Strauss, Tod und Verklärung.
23 September 1904: Verdi, Requiem; Wagner, Overture to Parsifal; Beethoven, Symphony No.7.
24 September 1904: Felicien David, The Desert; Liszt, Hungarian Fantasie (Miss Adela Verne, piano); Harry Evans, The Victory of St. Garmon (written for the festival and conducted by the composer); Mendelssohn, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Evening concerts
21 September 1904: Saint-Saens, Samson and Delilah.
22 September 1904: Jules Massenet, Eve (first English performance); Schumann, Faust; and Grieg, Concerto for Piano (Adela Verne).
23 September 1904: Wagner, Lohengrin (Act III); Cowen, John Gilpin (choral ballad, written for the festival); Tchaikovsky, Overture 1812.
24 September 1904: Mendelssohn, Elijah.
