Description A collection comprising the prospectus, programmes and wordbooks for 4 morning and 4 evening performances given at Park Hall, Cardiff between 8 and 11 October 1902 as the Cardiff Triennial Musical Festival, led by Mr W. Frye Parker and conducted by Frederic Cowen.

All programmes contain a wordbook, historical and analytical notes with musical examples, lists of the Patrons and committee for the Festival and detailed information regarding the vocal and instrumental performers, including a complete list of the orchestral ensemble. Many of the programme notes are provided by Mr W.A. Morgan and some are ‘reproduced by permission of the London Philharmonic Society’.

Morning concerts
8 October 1902: Mendelssohn, Elijah.
9 October 1902: Franck, The Beatitudes; Wagner, Overture to Die Meistersinger; A. Mackenzie, Coronation March; and vocal pieces by Purcell and Coleridge-Taylor.
10 October 1902: Rossini, Stabat Mater; Schumann, Piano Concerto in A minor; Elgar, Overture ‘Cockayne’ [sic]; and Ambroise Thomas, Scena.
11 October 1902: Gluck, Orpheus; Arthur Hervey, Two Tone Poems (composed expressly for this Festival); Tchaikovsky, Symphony No.6; and Gounod, Recit and Air.

Evening concerts
8 October 1902: F. Cowen, Ruth; Mozart, Overture to Idomeneo; and Brahms, A Song of Destiny.
9 October 1902: Wagner, The Flying Dutchman (Acts II and III); and Beethoven, Symphony No. 3.
10 October 1902: Saint-Saens, Samson and Delilah.
11 October 1902: Berlioz, Faust.
