Description
A collection of programmes and wordbooks for two concerts given in Cambridge in 1876, held as part of a bound volume.
10 May 1876, Guildhall: Grand Concert, being a two-part performance of English and Italian vocal music, given by Mrs Irene Ware, Miss Robertson, Miss Fanny Robertson, Mr W. Shakespeare and Mr Wadmore, conducted by Signor Alberto Randegger. Each part of the concert also included a solo piece for piano, performed by Charles V. Stanford. The programme provides the words with translation where appropriate and contains a number of handwritten sketches.
24 May 1876, Christ's College Hall: Christ's College Musical Society May Term Concert, being a two-part performance, the first including selections from Sir William Sterndale Bennett, The Woman of Samaria and the second part being predominantly vocal, with much music by English composers, including Sterndale Bennett. The second part of the concert also included a piano duet by Schumann. The programmes includes a list of the committee of the Musical Society but provides only minimal information regarding the performers: Messrs Thompson and Vines (piano) and Mr Orpen, Mr Blyth and Master Cross (vocal), conducted by W.C. Dewberry.
