Collection Description

Collection name Buckhurst Hill Concerts (1907-08)
Unique identifier d.488.j. (10.)
Description A collection of programmes for four Grand Evening Concerts given at the Buckhurst Hill Hall, Queens Road, Buckhurst Hill, Essex between 1907 and 1908.

These were two-part performances, beginning with a rendition of the National Anthem, directed from the piano by Mr Otley Marshall.

The first two concerts consisted principally of English music for solo voice, including occasional instrumental solos and works for a larger ensemble (vocal or instrumental) at the start of each half.

The third and fourth concerts featured the Buckhurst Hill Choral Society and combined solo numbers with madrigals, part songs or choruses for full ensemble. Both concerts also included a significant extract from an Italian opera. The programmes for these performances incorporate wordbooks, brief historical notes a lists of the members of the Choral Society.
