Description
A miscellaneous collection of programmes for performances given under the auspices of the British Broadcasting Corporation – typically involving the BBC Symphony Orchestra – at various venues in the UK and Ireland from the season 1940–41 to 1983–84 and from 1985–86 to 1987–88, held as a sequence of bound volumes (one volume per season).
During the period of the 2nd World War, the volumes include a large number of programmes for performances in provincial venues, notably the Colston Hall, Bristol. Thereafter, the majority relate to London venues, notably the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall.
The programmes typically include words and notes (many with musical examples) and provide information about the performers (including photographs and lists of the choral and/or orchestral ensembles).

Collections Overview
The BBC's Written Archives constitute the working papers of the organization from 1922 to the 1970s. They show in great detail how the BBC went about the task of making programmes, first for radio and later also for television. They detail the planning, production and content of these programmes, encompassing internal memoranda and minutes of meetings, financial records, correspondence with contributors, programmes records of various types, extensive press cuttings, audience reaction, concert programmes, publicity and publications. These detailed internal records are available for research from the beginning up to 1974.
