Description A collection of programmes and wordbooks for 5 concerts given at The Dome, Brighton between 2 and 5 February 1910 as the second Brighton Musical Festival, arranged chronologically as a bound volume.

All programmes provide detailed information regarding the vocal and instrumental soloists and include historical and analytical notes (with musical examples) by F. Gilbert Webb. The concerts include a number of first performances and a number of works conducted by their composers. Where no indication is given below, concerts were conducted by Joseph Sainton.

2 February 1910: Saint-Saens, Samson and Delilah, with Madame Marie Brema, Mr Walter Hyde, Mr Robert Burnett, Mr Robert Charlesworth, Mr George Baker, Mr S. Hempsall, Mr D. Byndon-Ayres and Mr Daniel Paine (vocal), accompanied by a full chorus and orchestra of 500 performers.

3 February 1910: A Grand Wagner Concert, comprising the second act of The Flying Dutchman, with Miss Edith Evans, Miss Enid Gabell, Mr John Coates, Mr Thorpe Bates and Mr Robert Burnett. The concert also included the first performance of S. Coleridge-Taylor, Endymion's Dream (a cantata for soprano and tenor solos, chorus and orchestra), conducted by the composer.

4 February 1910: Verdi, Requiem, with Madame Gleeson-White, Miss Lillian Tree, Mr John Coates, Mr Watkin Mills (vocal). The concert also included the first production of James R. Dear, Songs of the Open Air (for baritone solo, chorus and orchestra) and Charles Villiers Stanford, Ode to Discord (for soprano and baritone), given by Madame Gleeson-White and Mr Plunkett Greene and conducted by their composers.

5 February 1910 (afternoon): Grand Symphony Concert, with Miss Jean Waterston and Mr Plunket Greene (vocal). The concert included: the 'first production in the provinces' of Paderewski, New Symphony; the first English performance under the composer's direction of Christian Sinding, Infinito; Arthur Hervey, Life's Moods and Dr. W. H. Speer, Suite, 'Cindarella' (composed expressly for the festival); and Edward Green, Spring, Grand Festival Orchestra. All of these works were conducted by their composers.

5 February 1910 (evening): Mascagni, Cavalleria Rusticana, with Miss Esta D'Argo, Miss Lilian Tree, Miss Enid Gabell, Mr Walter Hyde and Mr Walter Burnett. The concert included: Dr Christian Sinding, Symphony in D minor (first performance in England under the composer's direction); Liszt, Piano Concerto in E flat (Miss Marie Novello, piano); and Rutland Boughton, Symphonic March.
