Collection Description

Collection name Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra (1903)
Unique identifier d.488.g. (1.)
Description Souvenir of the 500th symphony concert given by the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra on 14 December 1903 at the Winter Gardens in Bournemouth, conducted by Dan Godfrey.

This document does not actually contain the programme performed on this occasion. Instead it provides a detailed list of all the works played by the orchestra since its inception in 1893, with dates and, where appropriate, the names of soloists. This list also provides an indication of any first performances. There is also a record of those composers who have visited the orchestra to conduct their own works, again with dates.

The document also includes a preface by Dan Godfrey about the origins of the orchestra, a complete record of the orchestral players in 1903, and a number of photos of the orchestra and of Bournemouth.
