Description A single bound volume, labelled Newspaper Cuttings &c., containing material relating to the Blackheath Conservatoire of Music [BCM] (est. 1881), including newspaper cuttings and handbills and programmes for Student Concerts and for concerts given by musicians associated with the Conservartoire.

Many of the programmes are accompanied by press cuttings containing reviews of the performances.

13 May 1913, 19 May 1915 and 29 May 1918, Parish Hall, Eltham/St. Andrew's Parish Room, Mottingham/Holy Trinity Hall, Eltham: Students Concerts, accompanied by Madame Tester Jones. These were two-part performances of vocal and instrumental music.

Thursday 30 October [1913], Parish Hall, Wellington Road, Blackheath: Evening Concert given by the BCM and featuring Mr Leonard Borwick (piano), Miss Carmen Hill (vocal) and Herr Ferencz Hegedus (violin) (with words, a list of the Professorial Staff and some minor handwritten annotations regarding the performance of encores).

Friday 19 November [1920], Aeolian Hall: Song Recital by Gale Gardner, accompanied by Phyllis Norman-Parker, including the first performances of three songs by Phyllis Norman-Parker (with words).

3 February and 13 March 1923, Aeolian Hall: Three Sonata Recitals nos. 2 and 3 given by Betty Polischuk (violin) and Michael Doré (piano), the first with Maurice E. Webbe (accompanied by Hazel Perman) and the second with Mischa Leon (accompanied by Harold Craxton) (with words and Press Comments).

2 February 1923, Wigmore Hall: Second Pianoforte Recital by Leslie England, including the first performance of Reginald King, Four Preludes (MS.) (handbill).

9 February 1923, Steinway Hall: Harry Farjeon's Concert of his pupils' compositions (handbill).

13 February 1923, Concert Hall, Blackheath: Third BCM Subscription Concert with Florence Austral (vocal), conducted by George Mackern (with wordbook, historical and descriptive notes and lists of the Professorial Staff, Stewards and the orchestral ensemble).

Wednesday 28 February [1923], Concert Hall, Blackheath: Violin Recital by Alexander Kirk, accompanied by Roy Chisholm (handbill, with minor handwritten annotations documenting changes to the printed programme).

Friday 23 March [1923], Aeolian Hall: English Song Recital given by Gale Gardner, with Beatrice Eveline (cello) and Phyllis Norman-Parker (piano), including the first performances of a number of songs by Norman-Parker (with words).

17 October 1923, Steinway Hall: Pianoforte Recital by Dorothy Cousin (handbill).

13 November 1923, Blackheath Concert Hall: Students' Concert and Distribution of Prizes, accompanied by Miss Betty Polischuk, with the prizes distributed by Sir Hugh P. Allen (director of the RCM).

15 February 1937, Grotrian Hall: Bach-Chopin recital, given by Dorothy Peacock (piano) (handbill, partly damaged)

23 March 1927, Blackheath Concert Hall: Sheridan, The School of Scandal, the music directed by George H. Wilby (with a list of the orchestral ensemble).

11 December, Blackheath Congregational Church: Selections from Handel, Messiah, given by Miss May Lawson, Miss Marguerita Carlton, Mr Howard Hemming and Mr William James (vocal) and Mr Arthur C. Sharland (organ) (handbill).

9 December 1968, St. Mary's Church Hall, Cresswell Park, Blackheath: Two Concerts by BCM Students, given at 5pm (Juniors) and 8pm (Seniors), accompanied by Geoffrey Connah (handbill and programme, not bound). Each concert included a short talk by baritone John Huw Davies.

16 December 1890, Rink Concert Hall: Students' Concert, accompanied by Alfred Izard (with a list of the Committee and Stewards for the concert and of the various prize/scholarship winners).

14 May 1929, Miller General Hospital, Greenwich: Royal Opening of the New Extensions by HRH the Duchess of York, including a Programme of Music to be performed by the Band of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, conducted by Captain E. C. Stretton.
