Description
A collection of programmes with wordbooks for four concerts given at the Bechstein Hall, London, between 1902 and 1904, arranged as listed within a bound volume.
17 May [1904]: Miss Mary Carmichael’s Afternoon Concert, with Mrs Helen Trust, Miss Louise Phillips, Miss Gleeson-White, Mr Louis Schalk, Mr Francis Braun, Mr Denis O’Sullivan, Misses Carnegie-Prior, Miss Lena Ashwell, Miss Kathleen Purcell and Miss Katharine Goodson (piano), conducted by Miss Mary Carmichael and Mr Stanley Hawley. This was a predominantly vocal concert, including much music by Mary Carmichael. It opened and closed with music for two violins performed by the Misses Carnegie-Prior and also included solos for harp (Miss Kathleen Purcell) and piano (Miss Katharine Goodson).
[no date]: The Marchesi O’Sullivan Recitals no.1, given by Madame Blanche Marchesi and Mr Denis O’Sullivan (vocal), with Miss Edith Ladd and Mr Hamilton Harty (piano). This was a two-part performance of vocal solos and duets, including a number of first performances. The vocal pieces were sung in their original language with the wordbook providing translations where appropriate.
18 March 1902: Miss Rosa Leo recital no.3, with Miss Evelyn Suart (piano), accompanied by Mrs Gregory Hast. This was a single-act performance of vocal and piano repertory, with much music by Florian Pascal, including the first performance of the song cycle Ring-o’-Roses. The programme provides the names of the vocal soloists.
9 March 1903: Evening Concert given by Miss Fanny Howard and Miss Wyllie Jaeger, accompanied by Mr F.B. Kiddle. This was a programme of vocal and instrumental music given by Miss Evangeline Florence, Miss Hilda Wilson, Mr Harold Wilde, Mr H. Lane Wilson and Mr Percy Such, including the first performance of Dirk Schäfer, Sonata for Pianoforte and Violin.
