Description
Programmes and wordbooks for the Concerts of Ancient Music and for Bartleman, C. Knyvett, W. Knyvett and Greatorex's Vocal Concerts given at the New Rooms, Hanover Square during the 1818 season.
Also, programmes and wordbooks for other concerts at the New Rooms, Hanover Square and at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, London and for three performances given in Bath as part of Mr Hobb's Sixth Bath and Somerset Musical Festival.
Programmes are bound chronologically as the last of seven volumes comprising the collection of Andrew Ashe (1759–1838). They are listed here alphabetically by venue, with the London programmes followed by those for Bath. The programmes for the Concerts of Ancient Music do not cite a performance venue but it is known from other sources that they were held at the New Rooms, Hanover Square.
The majority of the programmes for the Vocal Concerts include lists of the principal vocal performers and of the members of the orchestral ensemble, as do those for the Bath concerts. Those for the 8th and 9th Vocal Concerts also provide a list of the subscribers to the series.
