Collection Description

Collection name Andrew Ashe collection: volume 3 (1810-11)
Unique identifier 17405.d.8
Description A miscellaneous collection of programmes and wordbooks for concerts given at a range of London venues and in Bristol, Derby, Oxford and Newcastle between 1810 and 1811, including extended runs of programmes for the Concerts of Ancient Music, Harrison, Bartleman and Greatorex's Vocal Concerts, and the Billington-Naldi-Braham concerts (1810 only).

Programmes are bound chronologically as third of seven volumes comprising the collection of Andrew Ashe (1759–1838). They are grouped here alphabetically by venue, with the London venues followed by the provincial ones. The programmes for the Concerts of Ancient Music do not cite a performance venue but it is known from other sources that they were held at the New Rooms, Hanover Square.

Many of the programmes for the Vocal Concerts include records of the principal vocal performers and of the orchestral ensemble. Programmes for the Choral Fund and New Musical Fund and at least one programme per season for the Vocal Concerts carry lists of the Subscribers to the Fund/concerts.

A number of the programmes carry handwritten annotations/corrections.
