Collection Description

Collection name Andrew Ashe collection: volume 2 (1807-09)
Unique identifier 17405.d.7
Description A miscellaneous collection of programmes and wordbooks for performances given at various London venues and in Bath, Bristol, Ramsgate and Worcester between 1807 and 1809, including extended runs of programmes for the Concerts of Ancient Music (1807), Harrison, Bartleman and Greatorex's Vocal Concerts (1807 and 1809) and the Billington-Naldi-Braham concerts (1809).

Programmes are bound chronologically as the second of seven volumes comprising the collection of the London-based flautist Andrew Ashe (1759-1838). They are listed here alphabetically by venue, with the London venues followed by the provincial ones.

None of the programmes for the Concerts of Ancient Music cite a performance venue but it is known from other sources that these took place in the New Rooms, Hanover Square. Many of the programmes for the Vocal Concerts and all programmes for the Billington-Naldi-Braham concerts include lists of the principal vocal performers and of the members of the orchestral ensemble. Programmes for the Choral Fund and New Musical Fund carry lists of the Subscribers to the Fund. Similar lists are found in at least one programme for each season of Vocal Concerts.

A number of the programmes carry handwritten annotations/corrections.
