Collection Description

Collection name Andrew Ashe collection: volume 1 (1803-06)
Unique identifier 17405.d.6
Description A miscellaneous collection of programmes and wordbooks for performances given at a range of London venues and in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Gloucester and Oxford between 1803 and 1806.

The programmes are bound chronologically as the first of seven volumes comprising the collection of Andrew Ashe (1759-1838). They are listed here alphabetically by venue, with the London venues followed by provincial one.

All programmes for the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden begin with a list of the principal vocal and orchestral players, as do those for the Bristol performances of 1803.

Programmes for the Choral Fund (10 February 1806) and for Harrison, Bartleman and Greatorex's Vocal Concert (14 February 1806) include lists of the orchestral ensemble.

The programmes for the Choral Fund and New Musical Fund include lists of the subscribers to the Fund, whilst that for Messrs. Charles and William Knyvett's concert on 9 May 1803 carries a handwritten annotation concerning Haydn's 'Surprise' Symphony.
