Collection Description

Collection name Academy of Ancient Music (1746-61)
Unique identifier 1042.i.8. (2-6, 8.)
Description Programmes with words for the Motets, Madrigals and Other Pieces, performed by the Academy of Ancient Music on 24 April 1746, 6 April 1749, 28 February 1751, 29 April 1756, 5 May 1757 and 30 April 1761, held chronologically within a bound volume.

These were all three-part concerts of English and Italian/Latin choral music. None of the documents contains a separate list of the works performed but the wordbooks do include the texts in translation where appropriate.

These items provide no indication of the performers involved or of the venue for the performances, although the latter might be assumed to have been the Academy's regular meeting place, the Crown and Anchor Tavern on the Strand.
