Description This is a collection of programmes for concerts given by the Stockport Vocal Union. There are three volumes of programmes for concerts given by the Society at the Mechanics' Institution, Stockport. From 1911 the concerts were given in Stockport Town Hall then from 1916 the concerts were given in the Centenary Hall. The first volume contains programmes dating from 27/10/1873 to 2/4/1879. The second volume contains programmes dating from 8/11/1880 to 26/1/1903. The third volume contains programmes dating from 26/10/1903 to 31/3/1924.

Collections Overview The Henry Watson Music Library is named after Dr. Henry Watson, a renowned composer and teacher born in nearby Accrington. After his death in 1911 he bequeathed the contents of his private library to the care of Manchester City Council. Watson's original collection (some 16,700 volumes) has been supplemented by many important donations and acquisition since and has grown into one of the largest collections of music in any public library.
