Description This collection contains two bound volume of programmes for concerts given in the Free Trade Hall. The first volume contains programmes dating from 23/10/1897 to 1/3/1902 under the title of 'Mr G.W. Lane's Subscription Concerts'. The second volume contains programmes dating from 8/11/1902 to 2/3/1907 under the title of 'Mr Brand Lane's Subscription Concerts'. Both Mr Lane's were normally the conductors for the concerts.

There are also four folders containing loose programmes.

The first folder contains programmes under the direction Mr G.W. Lane with the Manchester Philharmonic Choral Society for whom he was conductor. The accompanist was Mr Herbert Walker. The programmes date from 10/3/1888 to 6/3/1897

Collections Overview The Henry Watson Music Library is named after Dr. Henry Watson, a renowned composer and teacher born in nearby Accrington. After his death in 1911 he bequeathed the contents of his private library to the care of Manchester City Council. Watson's original collection (some 16,700 volumes) has been supplemented by many important donations and acquisition since and has grown into one of the largest collections of music in any public library.
