Description This collection contains two volumes of programmes for concerts given by the Hargreaves Choral Society. The venues for the concerts are The Wellington Concert Room, Peter Street until May 1844 and then the Free Trade Hall. The first volume contains programmes that date from 25/11/1841 to 24/5/1849. There is a signature by Chas. Lever on the first page dated 9/7/1850. There is also a loose programme for a miscellaneous concert given at the Mechanics' Institution in Manchester - there is no mention of the Hargreaves Choral Society in this programme. The second volume contains programmes dating from 25/11/1841 to 24/5/1849. This volume also contains newspaper cuttings and a list of repertoire.

Under the classmark BR780.69 HAR001 there is a very delicate scrapbook containing material from the Hargreaves Choral Society, including tickets, press cuttings and notices from the society. There are also the following programmes:

Collections Overview The Henry Watson Music Library is named after Dr. Henry Watson, a renowned composer and teacher born in nearby Accrington. After his death in 1911 he bequeathed the contents of his private library to the care of Manchester City Council. Watson's original collection (some 16,700 volumes) has been supplemented by many important donations and acquisition since and has grown into one of the largest collections of music in any public library.
