Description This is a collection of volumes of concert programmes for the 'Concerts of Ancient Music'. There are 63 volumes dating from 10th February 1783 to 11th June 1845. The volumes for 1784, 1789, 1791, 1792, 1793, 1795, 1830, 1834, 1837, 1838 and 1842 are missing. The programmes from 1783 to 1795 are for concerts given at the New Rooms, Tottenham Street, London. From 1796-1803 the concerts were given in the New Room, King's Theatre, Haymarket. From 1804-1845 the concerts were given in the New Rooms, Hanover Sqaure.

Collections Overview The Henry Watson Music Library is named after Dr. Henry Watson, a renowned composer and teacher born in nearby Accrington. After his death in 1911 he bequeathed the contents of his private library to the care of Manchester City Council. Watson's original collection (some 16,700 volumes) has been supplemented by many important donations and acquisition since and has grown into one of the largest collections of music in any public library.
