Description Two volumes of programmes for concerts given by the Cheetham Glee and Choral Union. Both volumes contain an index at the beginning which contains alphabetical lists of composers, their works performed and the dates of performances of the individual works. In both volumes the programmes are clearly separated into 'seasons'. The first volume dates from 14/4/1863 to 8/11/1880 and the second from 14/1/1881 to 7/4/1902. The concerts from 1863-1893 were held in the Town Hall, Cheetham but from 1894 the concerts were held in the New Public Hall, Cheetham Hill.

Collections Overview The Henry Watson Music Library is named after Dr. Henry Watson, a renowned composer and teacher born in nearby Accrington. After his death in 1911 he bequeathed the contents of his private library to the care of Manchester City Council. Watson's original collection (some 16,700 volumes) has been supplemented by many important donations and acquisition since and has grown into one of the largest collections of music in any public library.
