Collection name Gregynog Press Ephemera (1924-62)

Description 4 boxes of ephemera related to the Gregynog Press, a private printing press founded by Gwendoline and Margaret Davies of Gregynog Hall an estate near Newtown, Powys, Mid-Wales set up in 1920 for international conferences and as a centre for music. The collection mostly consists of Orders of Service for conferences, and church services, but there are also many concert programmes related to the Gregynog Festival of Music and Poetry as well as stand-alone concerts given by the National Council of Music. The Gregynog Festival of Music and Poetry began in 1933 and the collection contains fesitval programmes along with programmes for individual days of the festival. In 1954 the festival gave the Welsh premiere of Stravinsky's 'In Memoriam Dylan Thomas' There are many items missing, a handlist of the ephemera exists in Dorothy Harrop's 'The Gregynog Press', which catalogues all the items. The collection is on long term loan to the Museum from the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, which holds more of the collection, including the missing items. Items from the collection will be part of an exhibition in July of 2007.

Allen, Dorothy Silk, Welsh Symphony Orchestra, The English Singers, Lascelles Abercrombie, Ernest Hughes, Charles Clements, Mary Jarred, Michael Mulliner, The Aberystwyth String Players, Elsie Suddaby, Haydn Lewis, Arwel Hughes, Ian Parrot, Chamber Ensemble of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, Clifford Bunford, Mary Randell as well as instrumentalists from Aberystwyth, Bangor and Cardiff.
