Description Collection of programmes booklets relating to the Cork International Choral and Folk Dance Festival (1972-84). The booklets contain programmes of the competitions held as part of the festival that year. One concert was generally held for the official opening in City Hall. From 1974, a performance was held at the Announcement of Awards ceremony on the last day. Box contains correspondence by Fleischmann to the Sunday Press.

Festival : 3/5/72-7/5/72; Concert: 3/5/72. Performing groups participating included the 4th Infantry Battalion Pipe Band, the Cork Symphony Orchestra conducted by Aloys Fleischmann, the Cork Festival Choir, the Cork Ballet Company and the Cork Symphony Orchestra. Programme included Fleischmann's 'Song of the Provinces' with audience participation; included with the programme is the music and words provided for the crowd (plus duplicate).

Festival: 2/5/73-6/5/73; Concert: 2/5/73. Performing groups participating included 4th Infantry Battalion Pipe Band, the Cork Ballet Company and the Cork Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Fleischmann.

Festival: 24/4/74-28/4/74. Opening concert: performing groups participating included the Band of the Southern Command, the Cork Ballet Company, Massed Festival Choirs and the Cork Symphony Orchestra conducted by Fleischmann; closing concert: Massed Irish Choirs and the Cork Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dr. Felix De Nobel.

Festival: 3/5/78-7/5/78; Concert: 3/5/78. Performing groups particicipating included the Band of the Southern Command, Massed Festival Choirs and the Cork Symphony Orchestra. Programme includes a 'Festival March' by Michael Dawney specially composed for the occasion and the first performance of 'Festival Song' by Fleischmann. The booklet contains a historical note on the festival.

Festival: 2/5/84-6/5/84. Opening concert: recital by the Pipe Band of the 4th and 12th Battalions, Southern Command. Concert following the opening by numerous choirs including: Academic Choir of the Pedagogical Faculty of Ostrava, Czechoslovakia; St. Brendan's Sixth Form College Madrigal Choir, Bristol; Star-Scape Singers, Toronto; and the Central Male Choir of Hungarian Workers' Militia, Budapest, Hungary. Closing concert: Massed Choirs from Cork City and County and the Orchestra of University College, Cork conducted by Geoffrey Spratt.

Collections Overview The National Library of Ireland has two collections consisting mainly of printed sheet music from the eighteenth to the early twentieth century. These include much material from the mainsteam western classical music tradition, but also material relating to little known Irish composers. The names of the two collections are the Joly Music Collection and the Additional Music collection. In addition the Library has a small but significant collection of music manuscripts. The general printed collections include some Irish ballad, folk-music and popular song collections.
