Description
A collection of 49 programmes and season guides from concerts given in London, 1956 to 1960. The programmes contain analytical programme notes and musical examples.
The majority of programmes are from Henry Wood Promenade Concerts, given at the Royal Albert Hall. The programmes are from the following years and seasons: 1956 season/62nd Season (7 programmes); 1957 season/63rd season (1 season brochure, 10 programmes); 1958 season/64th season (10 programmes); 1959 season/65th season (1 season brochure, 11 programmes); 1960 season/66th season (1 programme). The concerts took place in August and September, and featured a variety of orchestras and conductors.
There are six programmes from Royal Philharmonic Society Concerts, given at the Royal Festival Hall. These were given at various points in the year. The majority of programmes are from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and there is one programme from the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Conductors included Malcolm Sargent, Adrian Boult, Jascha Horenstein. There are also two other programmes from concerts given at the Royal Festival Hall, from 1956 and 1959. These were orchestral concerts given by the Hallé Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
