Collection name Henry Wood Collection: London Musical Festival (1899)

Description A collection of one volume and one loose programme from the London Musical Festival, 1899. The programmes relate to concerts given at the Queen’s Hall, London. The festival consisted of orchestral concerts and choral concerts. The orchestral concerts were given by either the Queen’s Hall Orchestra – more exactly described on the programmes as “Robert Newman’s Queen’s Hall Orchestra” – conducted by Henry Wood, or the Lamoureux Paris Orchestra, conducted by C.H. Lamoureux. The orchestras combined for the final concert of the Festival, at which both conductors shared the conducting duties. The choir involved in the festival was the Queen’s Hall Choral Society, conducted by George Riseley. There is one loose programme from May 9th, which is a duplicate of the programme for this date in the bound volume. The programmes have been bound without their front covers and do not have dates of concerts; however, it is known from both the loose programme and the other extant programmes that the festival took place from 8th – 13th May, 1899. The programmes contain analytical programme notes written by Edgar F. Jacques.
