Description A collection of eight volumes and 11 loose programmes from the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, 1830 to 1930.

The collection contains volumes of programmes from 1830, 1905, 1908, 1911 and 1924. There are loose programmes from 1927 (3 concerts, incomplete) and 1930 (8 concerts, complete festival). In addition, there are illustrated souvenir programmes from 1911, 1924 and 1930. The 1830 programme is inscribed to Henry Wood, as a memento for is leadership of the 1908 festival. The 1905 programme is signed by various performers. The majority of programmes contain analytical notes and musical examples. The souvenir programmes in particular have numerous portraits and photographs.

The festival ran in October. The concerts took place from Wednesday to Saturday, and there were two concerts per day. The festival consisted of performances of choral works, oratorios and orchestral music. The 1905 festival featured the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Alberto Randegger; subsequent festivals featured the Queen’s Hall Orchestra or New Queen’s Hall Orchestra, conducted by Henry Wood. The orchestra from the 1830 festival was unnamed, and conducted by George Smart.
