Collection name New Philharmonic Society (1852-1857)

Description A collection of one volume of programmes from the New Philharmonic Society, 1855 to 1856. The programmes contain analytical programme notes and musical examples.

The collection is not complete: there are programmes from the 2nd, 5th and 6th concerts of the 1855 season; programmes from the 1st-5th concerts of the 1855 (5th) season; programmes from the 1st-3rd concerts of the 1855 (6th) season, which was the full compliment for this season; 6th programme for the 1852 (1st) season.

The concerts took place at Exeter Hall (1855) and the Hanover Square Rooms (1856-1857). The programme for the 1852 concert does not specify a venue. Concerts took place on Wednesday evenings.

Arrangement:
The majority of programmes are in chronological order; the programme from the 1852 concert is at the end of the volume.
