Description
A collection of 24 programmes from “Northern Promenade Concerts”, 1930. The collection is complete. The collection contains programmes from 26/5 to 21/6, except for Sunday nights when there were no concerts given. The series ran for two weeks in Manchester, then one week in Liverpool, followed by a week in Leeds. The concerts took place in the following venues: Free Trade Hall; Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool; Town Hall, Leeds. The concerts were given by the Hallé orchestra, conducted by Hamilton Harty. In addition, some concerts featured the Hallé chorus and the Liverpool Philharmonic Chorus. The concerts were chiefly orchestral; however, they also contained some solo piano items and song with piano accompaniment. In addition, some concerts included performances of oratorios or scenes from opera. The programmes include analytical notes, as well as words to the sung items on the programme.
