Description
A collection of 12 programmes from the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts, Winter Season 1948. The concerts took place from 5th to 17th January in the Royal Albert Hall, London. The collection contains a complete set of programmes from the season, which featured one concert a day for two weeks, running Monday to Saturday. The collection also includes an overall season guide, which contains a short introduction to the season, a programme list for each concert and an index of works performed. The season was promoted by the BBC. The concerts in the first week of the season were given by the London Symphony Orchestra, and were conducted by Basil Cameron; the concerts in the second week were given by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and were conducted by Adrian Boult, with one concert conducted by Stanford Robinson. In addition, one concert also included a performance by the BBC Women’s chorus. The programmes contain analytical programme notes.
