Description
A scrapbook of programmes relating to the Wandering Minstrels, 1868 to 1878. The volume contains ca. 159 programmes, which relate to performances by amateur ensembles. The programmes encompass venues within the United Kingdom, and a large number of these are from venues within London. The majority of programmes are from concerts given by the Wandering Minstrels; a significant amount of these are from “Smoking Concerts” which were held at 47 Sloane Street. The collection also contains some financial accounts of the Wandering Minstrels. The remainder of the collection relates to other amateur groups or unnamed societies. The overwhelming majority of these are from programmes given by the Civil Service Musical Society, frequently though not exclusively from concerts held at St. James’s Hall. There are also some programmes from musical entertainments which formed part of Civil Service Cricket Club Dinners. The collection includes a small amount of press cuttings.
