Collection Description

Collection name London Musical Festival (1899)
Unique identifier
Description A collection of one volume of programmes from the London Musical Festival, 1899. The programmes relate to concerts given at the Queen’s Hall, London. The collection is a complete set of programmes from concerts given in evenings and some afternoons during the period 8th – 13th May, 1899. The collection also includes three programmes from extra concerts organised as part of the festival from 15th – 17th May of that year. The festival consisted of orchestral concerts and choral concerts. The orchestral concerts were given by either the Queen’s Hall Orchestra – more exactly described on the programmes as “Robert Newman’s Queen’s Hall Orchestra” – conducted by Henry Wood, or the Lamoureux Paris Orchestra, conducted by C.H. Lamoureux. The orchestras combined for the final concert of the Festival (13th May) in which both conductors shared the conducting duties. The choir involved in the festival was the Queen’s Hall Choral Society, conducted by George Riseley.
