Description A collection of ca. 26 volumes of programmes from Sunday Concerts given at the Queen’s Hall, London. The programmes date from 1895 to 1924: there are gaps in the sequence for 1901/1902, 1902/1903, 1903/1904, 1906/1907, 1907/1908, 1916/1917 and 1917/1918.

The collection chiefly contains programmes from Sunday afternoon contains, but also contains a volume of programmes from Sunday Evening Concerts in 1898/1899. The programmes from the Sunday Afternoon Concerts are chiefly from orchestral concerts given by the Queen’s Hall Orchestra - the title of the orchestra does not appear on programmes until midway in the 1895/1896 season – with a few programmes from concerts given by the London Symphony Orchestra in 1904/1905. The programmes from 1895 to 1897 are from concerts conducted by Alberto Randegger; from midway through the 1896/1897 season onwards, the conductor was virtually always Henry Wood. The programmes from the Sunday Evening Concerts are chiefly from choral concerts, and in particular performances of oratorio. These featured the Queen’s Hall Choral Society, and occasionally featured the Queen’s Hall Wind Band. Non-choral concert programmes are predominantly from vocal or instrumental recitals, rather than full orchestral concerts.

A few volumes in the collection contain hand-written lists of concerts, repertoire and performers.

Arrangement:
The collection is arranged chronologically into season. Within each season the programmes are arranged chronologically. The exception to this is when there are two series for one season , i.e. the Sunday Evening Concerts: here the programmes are separated into their respective series – i.e. the afternoon concerts for this season is separated from the evening concerts – and then arranged chronologically.
