Collection Description
Collection name
New Philharmonic Society (1864-1875)
Unique identifier
Description
A collection of programmes from concerts given by the New Philharmonic Society. The programmes date from 1864 to 1875. The concerts took place in St. James’s Hall (1864-1867, 1872-1875) and St. George’s Hall (1867-1875). The collection consists chiefly of programmes, but also includes a small amount of leaflets about the society. Many programmes in the collection are from concerts which formed as series of “Soiree Musicale”.
Arrangement:
The programmes are divided into two sequences: each sequence is a different way up to the other, and follows a logical order depending which way up the user opens the book. Both sequences are chronological within themselves, and there is a small temporal overlap between the sequences.
