Edinburgh Royal Choral Union: Box 6 of 6 (1993-2006)
Collection of ca. 300 programmes, newspaper cuttings, handbills, leaflets, posters, correspondence, prospectuses, contracts, and CDs from seasons 136-148 of the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union, with every season in a separate envelope within the box. Within each envelope (up to and including season 143) is a list of all the concerts performed in that particular season (not all of which have programmes), with a record of venue, works performed, conductor, orchestra, and soloists, and indications of first performances in Edinburgh and Scotland. Many of the programmes have been signed by soloists and conductors.
Highlights of the collection:
25/5/96: Concert to honour Herrick Bunney, with the St. Giles' Cathedral Choir, Peter Hurford (organ), Patricia MacMahon (soprano), Angela Whelan (trumpet), and Edinburgh University Singers, conducted by Eric Ibler: St. Giles' Cathedral.
1/12/96: With the Edinburgh University Chamber Orchestra conducted by Edward Harper and John Grundy, and soloists Janet de Vigne (soprano), Stephen Wallace (counter-tenor), and Leigh-Philips Melrose (baritone): Usher Hall.
6/5/00: With the BT Scottish Ensemble conducted by Martyn Brabbins, with Marianne Vidal (soprano), Sandy Chenery (counter tenor), Rom Raskin (tenor), and Tim Mirfin (bass): St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral.
27/10/02: With Sinfonia Alba, Bearsden Choir, and Edinburgh Youth Choir, conducted by James Hunter, Robert Marshall, and Dorcas Owen, with Jennifer Smith (soprano), Neil Mackie (tenor), and Stephen Roberts (baritone): Usher Hall.
30/11/03: With the Scottish Sinfonia, Edinburgh Bach Choir, Edinburgh Youth Choir, and Jubilo, conducted by Neil Mantle with several soloists: no venue named.
14/5/06: With the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martyn Brabbins with soloists Ailish Tynan (soprano), Jane Irwin (mezzo-soprano), Christopher Gillett (tenor), and Mark Holland (bass): no venue named.
