Collection Description

Collection name Waterloo Rooms, Edinburgh (1840-47)
Unique identifier Box 65
Description Concert Programmes Waterloo Rooms: 1 box (1840-47)
Collection of ca. 65 handbills from concerts at the Waterloo Rooms, Edinburgh.
Despite the title of the collection there are virtually no actual programmes. Almost the entire collection is composed of handbills from the Concerts à la Musard weekly series of orchestral and vocal music (1840-43), some with notes of first performances in Scotland. A description printed on the back of a handbill for a concert on 29/11/1841 says that the music of Josef Lanner, Joseph Labitsky, and Philippe Musard will form the staple of these concerts. Many feature the singer Mrs Bushe.
Also in the collection:
Handbill from the third Été concert, led by Mr R.B. Stewart with a number of soloists (7/6/1847)
Programme from a Grand concert by Madame Grisi (singer) with guests, conducted by Signor Pilotti (16/9/1843)
